However, wide-screen has a flag that tells the player it is in anamorphic format (that is, squashed left-right). It is the player that expands such flagged video out to wide-screen. If MPC displays your DVD as wide-screen, it's "File > Save Image" also should save the snapshot as wide-screen. Confirm that "View > Video Frame > Keep Aspect Ratio" is "checked" and "View > Video Frame > Override Aspect Ratio" is set to "Default". If you can't work out why the snapshots save squashed rather than wide-screen, use your paint program to manually resize them to wide-screen size 852x480.
