I find that when I take my laptop home and back to work I have the problem of “Error Code 80048820″,”Extended error code 80048439″.
Sometimes it goes away by itself, I just keep trying to login and it works eventually.
Lately, I’ve found something that works consistently for me.
I’m running W2K,
To get MSN going, I simply toggle the setting for “802.1p QOS” on the Advance Tab of the NIC from Enable to Disable or Vice Versa.
Here is how.
Bottom RHS Click:
Embedded NIC icon | Properties | click Configure | select Advance Tab | Select: 802.1p QOS (if Disabe change it or if enable change it)

these two error codes kept popping up I wld fix them and a week later they were back. I also had the added problem of NOT being able to send any emails out from yahoo incredinail Gmail and Hotmail. I cld get mail into yahoo.My tech guy spent 3 hours going thru stuff on my puter, no result. I also cld not access microsofts updates I kept coming up with error0×80072EE2. I looked for a fix for that one and saw as part of a fix to check MTU path in modem (i think thats right) I rang tech and the modem was the ONLY thing he didnt check. He came over today new modem in hand intsalled it and all the problems were fixed instantly . Just a thought, with these two horror error codes check microsoft updates and if it says web is having difficulties check to see if error 0×80072EE2 is there do what I did and google what is etc CODE. it will take you to the fixit pages. GOOD LUCK

This Error code 80048820 (extended code 8004840f) IS DRIVING ME F*CKING NUTS!!!
Been having it ever since I HAD to update my MSN messenger from 7.5 to the latest version of MSN Live. I’ve tried EVERYTHING that’s been suggested in forums. Nothing can beat the 80048820 error code!
MY SPECS
——–
MSN mail: xxxxxxx@yahoo.com
OP: Windows XP SP2 Professional version 2002
Motherboard: Asus P5K SE
Ethernet card: Built-in Attansic L1 Gigabit Ethernet
Cable Modem: SpeedTouch 716/716g
I have no anti-virus program, no router (well a cable modem), only the windows XP SP2 firewall. (I do not use proxy)
* I’ve checked my clock (date and time)
* I’ve registered softpub.dll, wintrust.dll, initpki.dll, MSXML3.dll, Rsaenh.dll, Mssip32.dll, Cryptdlg.dll, Dssenh.dll, Gpkcsp.dll, Slbcsp.dll, Sccbase.dll
* I’ve flushed DNS
* I’ve tried ‘ipconfig /release’ and then ‘ipconfig /renew’ in cmd
* I’ve deactivaded the windows firewall and tried logging in…
* I’ve set Explorer to Auto-detect proxy server settings
* I’ve deleted all cookies
* I’ve cleaned my computer with AD-Aware SE
* I’ve cleaned MSN with ImpFIX
* I’ve tried to repair MSN (error with key ports)
* I’ve checked the Using SSL 2.0 and SSL 3.0 boxes
* I’ve unchecked the ‘Check for server certificate revocation’ box
* I’ve set my cablemodem to allow ALL ports between 0-10000
* I’ve reinstalled Windows XP numerous times
* I’ve reinstalled MSN messenger numerous times
* I’ve checked that MSN system is “Stabe and running” on the Internet
* I’ve deleted HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MSNMessenger\Policies with regEdit
… still I get the same old damn error code! And worst of all is that there are no clues to the solution given. There are only a few hints I’ve collected during the past 2 weeks:
* When I troubleshoot the error something seems to be wrong with the key ports (cannot be repaired).
* My MSN works perfectly at school and other places except on MY computer at home.
* I’ve tried logging in with friends accounts at home. 2 hotmail accounts, none of them worked (same error code).
* I’ve tried another friends account, he uses a xxx@msn.se mail, it worked 1 time! But now I get the same error code again also when trying to log in with his account.
* So I had a friend make me a new account with a msn.se mail… no good…. same error code.
* I’ve tried using Trillian, gAIM, Pidgin and eBuddy. None of them works either (cannot connect).
* I cannot access neither microsoft.com, msn.com or msn-errors.blogspot.com
* My yahoo mail works as usual (I’ve heard of people being unable to access their hotmails).
* No matter what login mail or password I write, the same error code appears.
Now I’m kinda all out of ideas… this is so f*cking strange! It can’t be a virus or a worm since I’ve been re-installing windows several times and the first thing I do is to install MSN Live and try to log in. It can’t be a firewall problem since I’ve tried logging in with no anti-virus program or firewall activated at all. And the problem it NOT the freakin’ clock!
What I don’t know much about is hardware, could this be a hardware-problem? Something with my cable modem? Something with my built-in network card? But then why is it only msn that does’nt work? I does’nt make any sense!
Damn this is wearing me out… anyone else who might bring me a solution? Coz I’m all out of ideas here. =(
