Reports are coming in from Asia that the Skype protocol has been hacked. If accurate, this means that users can access the Skype VOIP network without using the Skype client - calls could be made through third party software directly to and from Skype users. A Skype-compatible client may be available by the end of July.
The reports are also suggesting that the new software will not support Skype’s super node architecture, meaning that users will not have the resource drain that often comes with running Skype. While this is great for the users of the hack, it could destabilize, ...

Nine months after announcing they would make their instant messaging services interoperate, Yahoo and Microsoft have done it.
The companies are set to release on Thursday a limited beta test of a service that will enable users of Windows Live Messenger (the next generation of MSN Messenger) and Yahoo Messenger with Voice to connect with each other.
The move creates a global community of nearly 350 million accounts, the companies said. The beta service is being launched globally in 15 localized languages.

Steps to bypass windows genuine validation (wga) and install microsoft private folder:
1. Download Orca.msi and install it.
2. Download MS Private Folder.
Note: If you can’t download because of the WGA in Windows Update, go here.
3. Open the download MSI ( MSPF10ENU.msi ) file in Orca.
4. In the left pane, select InstallUISequence.
5. Select the Action WelcomeForm
6. Double-Click the Condition, and change this:
Installed=â€" AND NOT RESUME
to this:
Installed=â€" AND RESUME
7. Save the MSI file and close Orca.
8. Run the installer.

Primera has started shipping the world's first Blu-ray disc duplication system, the Bravo XR-Blu Disc Publisher, able to burn up to 50 discs in one session.
The core of the unit is actually Pioneer's recently announced BDR-101A Blu-ray burner, but it's backed up by some sweet built-in robotics to keep the discs moving (we hope -- we've heard this things are a little buggy) and full-color direct-to-disc inkjet printing to ensure a professional-looking job. Hackers on Sunday broke into a part of Microsoft's French Web site, replacing the front page with online graffiti.
The intruders were able to access the server that was running http://experts.microsoft.fr/, Microsoft confirmed Monday. The attack was claimed by Turkish hackers using the handle "TiTHacK," said Zone-H, a security Web site that keeps an archive with screenshots of defaced Web sites.

The web and mobile (and Nintendo Wii) browser Opera released its 9.0 version today and a number of cool new features are offered, including a built in bittorrent downloader, tab previews and widgets.
The Oslo, Norway based browser originated in 1994 and has a loyal, if small, user base - especially among international mobile users.
The bittorent system may be painfully slow to experienced torrent users, but the simplicity of one click downloads of bittorent files could really appeal to novice users. (FireFox users interested in a similar function might want to check out our review of AllPeers.)

Yahoo! has released a software development kit (sdk) to allow third parties to create content plugins that users can add to their Yahoo IM.
Plugins can be built using javascript, flash, or both.
There are two categories of plugins. Conversation Plugins interact with the chat environment itself. For example, with the event finder plugin, two people chatting can bring up a Yahoo map and find pegged restaurantes, venues, etc. to discuss them.
