Can not sign-in to windows live messenger (msn messenger)? Getting the Error Code: 81000314
Finding for a solution i noticed a lot (LOTT) of ppl are experiencing the same problem and its due to Microsoft doing someting at their service end.
Alan L over forums.whirlpool.net.au found a soltion to bypass the default msn servers.
Here is how you can solve the Sign-In Error 81000314:
Open windows host file with Notepad: C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts
Add these 2 lines to the bottom:
65.54.239.80 messenger.hotmail.com
65.54.239.80 dp.msnmessenger.akadns.net
Save it and restart msn
Please do remember to remove these lines when the msn service gets back to normal.

I tried this method to get rid of that damned erro and it does not work. I repeat. IT DOES NOT WORK FOR ME!!! I am a big fan of MSN messenger but this so called “update” ruins what was otherwise a great product. What is even more unnerving is that MSN doesn’t seem to be interested or invested in taking care of it. Why the hell release somethign that is so full of bugs and then have the audacity to prevent clients from rolling back to the previous version that worked perfectly well?
