Are you unable to login to Windows Live Messenger 9 Beta (also known as MSN Messenger 9 Beta, WLM 9 Beta, Windows Live Messenger 2009 Beta, MSN Messenger 2009 Beta, WLM 2009 Beta) and getting the error code 8000402a?

I was experiencing the issue for some time and just exiting and re-starting the application solved it.

Basically what i figured out is when the messenger attempts to start the login process before my pc is properly connected online, it starts throwing the error even after a proper connection.

But if you exit the messenger and run it again after the pc is properly connected to the net, the error does not show up again.

Something like it caches the DNS (of msn server ip) of its own? And thus keep trying to connect on that unresolved ip? Not sure.

So if you are getting error code 8000402a on msn messenger, try to exit and start it again. Not sure if its a proper work around, but it worked for me.
