Belying apprehensions, there were no tsunami waves visible in Bangladesh waters till late Wednesday night.
Earlier, Met warnings said that a powerful earthquake that struck Indonesia Wednesday afternoon could send tsunami up to Bangladesh coast after Wednesday midnight.
After a meeting of weather experts, Dhaka Met Office in its latest bulletin at 2am, said “according to the national and international models, a devastating tsunami is unlikely to affect the coast of Bangladesh as the expected time is over.”

A tsunami may surge up to Bangladesh coast after Wednesday midnight following an earthquake near southern Sumatra of Indonesia, a Met warning said.
“It may generate tsunami wave in the Bay of Bengal of the North Indian Ocean that may reach Bangladesh coast after midnight (tonight),” said a Met Office bulletin in the evening.
A massive earthquake measuring 8.5 on Richter scale hit near southern Sumatra of Indonesia in the afternoon. The earthquake may trigger undersea waves called tsunami in Japanese terms.

Nobel Laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus is already in controversy in Bangladesh for his role. Now, possibly he has added a new dimension to his ‘character’ during his just concluded Abu Dhabi tour.
According to newspaper reports, Dr. Yunus, during his Middle East tour met Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, the owner of Dhabi group and proposed him to set up a world-class medical college hospital in Bangladesh. Yunus even proposed the name of the hospital as ‘Nahayan-Yunus Medical College Hospital’.
