Yahoo! has released preview version of the Yahoo Messenger for Windows Vista.
The Vista version of Yahoo Messenger is designed from the ground up specifically to match Vista beautiful and ‘wow’ user interface.

Nine months after announcing they would make their instant messaging services interoperate, Yahoo and Microsoft have done it.
The companies are set to release on Thursday a limited beta test of a service that will enable users of Windows Live Messenger (the next generation of MSN Messenger) and Yahoo Messenger with Voice to connect with each other.
The move creates a global community of nearly 350 million accounts, the companies said. The beta service is being launched globally in 15 localized languages.

Yahoo! has released a software development kit (sdk) to allow third parties to create content plugins that users can add to their Yahoo IM.
Plugins can be built using javascript, flash, or both.
There are two categories of plugins. Conversation Plugins interact with the chat environment itself. For example, with the event finder plugin, two people chatting can bring up a Yahoo map and find pegged restaurantes, venues, etc. to discuss them. Another plugin that I saw demo’d was the “avatars space” where users can interact in a virtual environment using avatars, pull in flickr photos and othe props, etc. ...
